Americana Singer and Songwriter Grant Langston teams up with rock/alt country producer Paul Q. Kolderie (Uncle Tupelo, Radiohead, Belly, Hole) for a new studio release – Working Until I Die.
For the new record Langston and Kolderie charged his old-school tunes with a shot of attitude. “The material is still me, but the vibe is very different,” Langston says. “I brought the songs and Paul brought the attitude.”
The most interesting thing about Working Until I Die may be the way it was recorded. Grant and his band recorded live, staring into each others eyes. They would do a couple of takes and Kolderie would say, “You’ve got it. Move on.” It turns out the basic tracks for the 12 tunes were cut in 4 hours. They took another 4 hours and cut the lead vocals. “Paul just said, ‘Let’s sing the songs,’ and I just went through them all.” It’s a throwback to the old days of making records, fast and dirty.
“There are things on this record that aren’t perfect, and it took me awhile to be okay with that, but the vibe cannot be denied.”
